Welcome to Don Murphy Weathervanes
and Cupolas website. Don is an
internationally recognized artisan working in copper to create weathervanes that are truly
exceptional. His weathervanes have been used as architectural details at numerous
commercial building developments across the country. They have also been exhibited in the
Chicago State of Illinois Building, the Illinois State Fair and the World Trade Center in
Tokyo as examples of American folk art.
He begins the process of creating a weathervane by carving
a design he envisions for the weathervane. After the carving is finished, he creates
his own forms used for hammering the copper into the desired shape. Even the
cardinals are Murphy-created designs exclusive to his weathervanes. All weathervanes
are signed by the artist, numbered and dated. When a pre-determined number of each
vane has been sold, the design is retired.
